Institutional Members: Expanded Options, New Registrations

Posted By Administration, Saturday, December 13, 2014

Changes in the TLA Bylaws in 2014 now allow for each institutional member to name two institutional representatives. Institutional members who wish to join or renew will first create a registration for the institution itself and then create profiles for the two representatives. If you'd like more information or you'd like to walk through the institutional registration process, please contact Jeanine Akers or Annelle Huggins.

 The Bylaws now say:

"Institutional membership shall allow that institution to name two persons as the institution’s representatives. These representatives shall have the same privileges as individual members, including member registration rate at each Annual Conference."

It's Time to Renew

Posted By Administration, Saturday, December 13, 2014

To renew, log in to your TLA profile and click the red Renew! link next to Membership Info.

Not currently a member--join today!

Your membership renewals ensure that the hard work of the association can continue in the upcoming year. Don't miss out on the many benefits of TLA membership.

Here are just a few reasons we believe a TLA membership is an important investment:

Advocacy – Communicate libraries’ value to the community, to stimulate improvements, and to influence public policy and funding.

Awards – Recognize excellence in the profession.  Internships are available for library school  interns to work and attend the annual TLA Conference; Members are eligible to apply for the Edwin S. Gleaves Scholarship to defray costs in attending Library school.

Communication   Learn and network through TLA online publications, the TLA-L listserv, and TLA’s presence on social networking sites such as LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter.

Continuing education opportunities – FREE access to TLA sponsored webinars, which occur roughly once a month on a variety of topics.

Discounted Rate for TLA Annual ConferenceMembers enjoy a discounted registration rate for the annual conference, set for April 22-24, 2015 in Memphis. Institutional Members are eligible to send two non-TLA members to conference at the member rate.

Professional development opportunities – Opportunities are available to publish research in Tennessee Libraries and lead presentations at TLA annual conferences.

Employment assistance – Employment opportunities are available through the TLA Career Center, both for job-seekers and employers. TLA also offers Career Development Services at the annual conference, providing members with résumé help and mock interview practice.

Discount membership or combined memberships – There are two discount rates for TLA Membership: 1) Students: Enjoy membership in both TLA and ALA for one low price of $38!, and 2) School Librarians: Enjoy membership in both TLA and TASL by deducting your TASL dues from your TLA dues.

Group affiliations – TLA members are entitled to free membership in one section and one roundtable.

Now Accepting Nominations for TLA Intellectual Freedom Award

Posted By Administration, Monday, October 13, 2014

Nominations are now being accepted for the Intellectual Freedom Award to be presented [a plaque and $500] at the annual TLA Conference in Memphis. This award recognizes the contribution of an individual or group who has actively promoted intellectual freedom in Tennessee. TLA has had several years where the award was not given and we certainly don’t want this year to be barren of this strikingly important award within our field. If you have anyone in mind and question whether they are eligible, email me at annie@clarksville.org for more info. The deadline is November 15th.
