Tennessee Libraries is an official publication of the Tennessee Library Association. It is a medium for professional and scholarly research, and a forum for the discussion of issues related to library and information services in Tennessee. Tennessee Libraries seeks articles on all types of libraries and library activities.
Manuscripts of the following nature will be considered:
- Scholarly articles relevant to Tennessee libraries;
- Articles with quantitative or qualitative evaluations of library practice;
- State of the art reviews designed to bring Tennessee librarians up to date;
- Reports of studies, surveys, or programs relevant to libraries in Tennessee;
- Tennessee Libraries particularly invites the participation of Tennessee and regional librarians and writers, new to the field of library science;
- Reader comments, guest editorials and letters will also be considered;
- News items should be sent to the TLA Newsletter.
Submitted manuscripts should be in the following format:
Manuscripts which do not follow these format requirements will be returned to the author for corrections.
- Electronic submission required, on floppy disk, CD-ROM, or by e-mail. Initial submissions may be made with paper copies, but authors will be required to submit an electronic version before publication.
- Microsoft Word format preferred, other word processing programs accepted. DO NOT use headers/footers or footnote functions. All notes should be included in endnotes.
- Contact Information: The title of the article, your name, position, professional address, telephone number, fax number and e-mail address should appear on the title page. The author's name should not appear on any other page of the manuscript. Your name and affilliation will be the only information included in the final publication; the other information is for the editor's use. The article title should be repeated at the beginning of the manuscript.
- Formatting: The less formatting you do, the better. Manuscripts should be single-spaced, with 1 inch margins, in Arial or Helvetica font. Do not use headers or footers on your document. Make a hard return between paragraphs. Do not indent at the beginning of a paragraph.
- Tables and graphics are encouraged, especially color graphics. Interactive media may also be used. Make all graphics a JPG or GIF file.
- Spelling: Please use your word processing software's spell check program to check your spelling before submitting your manuscript. Watch for typographical errors that are existing words (e.g., form vs. from).
- Usage: Avoid sexist language. TL prefers gender-free usage when possible. Use of first person (I, when the author refers to her/himself) is preferred to third person.
- Bibliographic Style:
- Use APA 5th edition as style guide.
- Please type all references at the end of your document. DO NOT use your word processor's footnote/endnote features. Do not submit the reference list as a separate file.
Send manuscripts to Leslie Adebonojo, Editor, Tennessee Libraries, Sherrod Library, East Tennessee State University, Box 70665, Johnson City, TN 37614-0665. (Phone: 423-439-4308, FAX: 423-439-5674) E-mail: adebonol@etsu.edu
Receipt of manuscripts will be acknowledged by the editor. If you do not receive an acknowledgement within two weeks, please follow-up with the editor, as e-mail is not entirely reliable. Following review of the manuscript by two or three referees, feedback will be provided to the author for the purposes of revision, or a decision to reject the article will be communicated. Accepted papers will be published as soon as space allows. The authors will be informed of the publication date of their piece as soon as decisions are made.
Editorial Board:
Tennessee Libraries is seeking experienced librarians to serve as members of the journal's editorial board. Editorial board members act as the journal's referees, within their areas of expertise. If you are interested in serving on the TL editorial board, please contact the TL editor. A copy of your resume and a list of areas that you would be willing to review in will help us to send you appropriate articles. We are currently seeking referees in all aspects of librarianship.
Interviews
Please send names of librarians in Tennessee and elsewhere whose views and thoughts would be interesting to you and your colleagues.
Provide e-mail addresses and/or phone numbers and what topics that they might discuss. Any questions that might be used in the interview would be greatly appreciated also. You will be given credit for your questions.
Send information to Scott Cohen (scohen@jscc.edu).
