Intellectual Freedom Committee Banned Books Display Contest

Banned Books Week is Sept. 22 – 28! Have you started thinking about your display? Check out last year’s submissions on TLA’s flickr and Facebook page for ideas.
The TLA Intellectual Freedom Committee is hosting its annual Banned Books Display Contest. Last year, we received over two dozen submissions, and we can top that number this year.
This year, the winner will receive a certificate!
There are three easy steps:
1. Have a Banned Books Week display!
2. Take photos of your Banned Books Week display!
3. Send the photos, the name of your library, and any other related details to Anthony Prince (firstname.lastname@example.org) before October 4, 2013. Photos of Banned Books Weeks celebrations will be posted to TLA’s website and Facebook page.
As with last year, we want you to vote on Facebook for your favorites (Voting = Liking your favorite display). The winning library receives one full year of bragging rights and a certificate for having the best display!
Nominate a Colleague for TLA Leadership
The Nominating Committee is seeking candidates for TLA Vice-President/President Elect and Recording Secretary. Duties and responsibilities can be found in the TLA Manual of Procedures. Please send your nominations to one of the committee members listed below. You may nominate yourself.

In particular, we could use additional committee members for the Honors & Awards Committee, Intellectual Freedom Committee, Archives & History Committee, Legislation Committee, and Scholarship Committee. Career Development Services Offered @ the 2013 Annual Conference
Last year, more than 20 people took part in our resume review service at the TLA Annual Conference. This year, we are expanding the opportunities to boost your career! If you are seeking a job now, think you may be in the future, or simply want to ensure you are prepared if that dream job opens up, please consider registering for one or more of our Career Development Services, held on both days of the TLA Annual Conference, April 25 and 26, in lovely Chattanooga, TN. Services provided include resume review, mock interviews, consultations, programming, and an information shop.
Please register as soon as possible (here: http://tinyurl.com/a6tmm5t ) so that we can ensure everyone who wants a consultation can indeed schedule one. Once you register, you will be paired with an experienced librarian who will offer friendly, constructive advice. All information you share with the consultant will be kept confidential. The appointments will last approximately 15-30 minutes, and will be scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Call for Papers: Grad Students Wanted
Special Graduate Student Issue – March 2013
Tennessee Libraries, the peer-reviewed journal of the Tennessee Library Association, seeks manuscripts for an issue highlighting the research of graduate students on any library-related topic.
Tennessee Teen Read Week – Oct. 14-20
Tennessee’s second-ever Teen Read Week is this week!! And it is not too late to plan something, anything really, to get your teens involved in the library. Plan an elaborate program, like Teen Iron Chef, or have a book club and do a craft. Anything that involves food, cause this year’s theme is “Reading is Sooo Delicious”.
Don’t forget to document your programs! We’ll be asking for pics and stats in the following weeks.

The Nominating Committee is seeking candidates for TLA Vice President/President Elect and Recording Secretary. Duties and responsibilities may be found in the TLA Manual of Procedures found on TLA’s web site at www.tnla.org under the heading “About TLA.” Please send your nominations (and yes, you may nominate yourself), to one of the Committee members listed below:

All nominations must be received by October 14, 2012, so the Nominating Committee can finalize the ballot by November 30, 2012.
Remember to cast your ballot in the ByLaws amendment issues. All ballots must be postmarked no later than July 27, 2012. Also please remember the correct PO Box number for TLA is 241074, (not 240174 as printed on the ballot). If you should have any questions concerning the proposed ByLaws changes, please contact Louise Kelly (email@example.com) or Perveen Rustomfram (firstname.lastname@example.org).
