Give Your Input on TLA's Restructuring Plan

Posted By Jeanine Akers, Tuesday, May 3, 2016

The TLA Restructure Task has been hard at work since last September.  Our charge from TLA President Susan Jennings is:

“Gather all data of what’s working and not working… try to retain the good parts… try to address the bad parts… ask our members… and come up with scenarios to be vetted by our membership.”

With the above “game plan,” the Task Force is seeking feedback from all TLA members.  Attached is our first draft, created after reviewing the structures of other state library associations and looking at all information we collected from you about what is and is not working in the current TLA.  Some topics that have already been raised include:

·         the need to add a place for school librarians – possibly a roundtable?

o   are there any other groups that don’t have a place in the current proposed restructure?

·         possibility of assigning requirements to the 3 at-large members – perhaps based on type of library, geographic location, or no restrictions

·         the separation of the diversity and advocacy committees – add them in other existing places or have them stand alone?

We would love to keep the conversation going with all of our members, so consider this your invitation to share! Send your questions, concerns, and comments to Ruth Kinnersley (, Richard Groves (, or Heather Lanier ( by May 31st.

Staff Development Webinar November 4

Posted By Administration, Monday, November 2, 2015
What is Marketing?  It is how to communicate the value of a a library's service or brand to their patrons for the purpose of promoting the library's service or brand.  Now, that's pretty easy for any library staffer to figure out with a quick google search.  The implementation of marketing, however, can be a major stumbling block for many libraries. The TLA Staff Development Committee is pleased to offer a FREE webinar for Tennessee library staff on marketing with guest presenter, Heather Lambert, the Continuing Education Coordinator, with the Tennessee Department of Library and Archives.
Please join Heather and the committee on Wednesday, Nov. 4th at noon CST. Just click on the link below to register and we'll look forward to seeing you online at the webinar.
